2018-2019 Board Position Openings

The PTA is looking to build up the Board for the 2018-2019 school year! If you have a desire to serve the PTA, the school, and ultimately the students; good listening skills; and effective communication skills, then we should talk.  

If you’re looking for a way to meet new parents, faculty and administration; build your resume while enhancing your work skills; make your kids proud of your important role; and know you are volunteering as a crucial member of the NES community, then we have a role for you!  

We have opportunities for everyone including Secretary or Treasurer!  We also have a number of Coordinator roles that will be a vital part of our operation for next year.  The PTA is essential to our school but we need your help!



The secretary’s responsibilities include both record-keeping and communications.

Responsibilities include:

  • Attend board and general PTA meetings and participate in discussions and decision making
  • Record and distribute minutes of board meetings and general meetings
  • Prepare agendas for general meetings, as developed in the executive board meeting
  • Work closely with Membership Coordinator during Membership Drive
  • Support other Coordinator and Event Leads on marketing and communication needs pertaining to events
  • Manage communications and marketing for the PTA, including but not limited to:
    • Newsletters
    • Email broadcasts
    • Website
    • Social media



The treasurer’s duties include keeping records and preparing reports to comply with local, state and federal laws.

Responsibilities include:

  • Post all financial transactions to our financial system as they occur throughout the month
  • Create monthly PTA Treasurer reports (Transaction Report and Performance to Budget)
  • Reconcile the checkbook
  • Write checks as needed (two signatures and proper paperwork required)
  • Make deposits in a timely fashion, as needed (we use a local bank with convenient night and weekend hours!)
  • Keep financial transaction forms available for all volunteers
  • Participate in board and general PTA meetings and provide input for decisions
  • Lead the annual budget development process in August
  • Present the budget for approval at the September PTA meeting
  • File Form 990/990EZ, the annual IRS return required for 501(c)(3) groups
  • Renew our incorporation with the state
  • Facilitate our annual audit


 Volunteer Coordinator

  • Help PTA Board and relevant Committees with recruitment of volunteers for events and other PTA support (copy team!)
  • Work with local school groups to develop relationship for middle/high school volunteers
  • Set up, monitor, and communicate Sign-Up Genius links and progress with board and/or committees for events
  • Create and submit to the PTA Secretary; Facebook posts, ConnectEd write ups, newsletter blurbs and website posts to solicit volunteers
  • Write/send emails to PTA Members to retain needed volunteers for events
  • Work with PTA Board on last minute pushes for volunteers and donations
  • Keep volunteers abreast of changes or needs for the events they will be working
  • Send Thank You messages/cards to volunteers following events
  • For large school events; coordinate and direct volunteers at check-in to ensure proper coverage and assistance
  • PLEASE NOTE: This is a yearlong position.


 Membership Coordinator 

  • Work with the PTA board to market and process new and returning NES PTA members
  • Working with the PTA President and NES Principal; organize and run a fun membership campaign that will encourage parents and engage children; thus boosting member numbers
  • Ensure timely and accurate submission of membership information and dues to MA PTA
  • Work with PTA Secretary to create and keep an accurate and up to date membership list
  • Distribute membership forms to parents via paper and online resources
  • Market the PTA benefits and provide members with cards and codes to access the benefits
  • Send Thank You and correspondence to PTA members as deemed necessary


 Fundraising Coordinator 

  • Work directly with the PTA Board to oversee fundraising events and initiatives
  • Operate the fall product fundraiser
  • Make suggestions and present product/fundraising options for the fall fundraiser
  • Work with company chosen to ensure proper procedures are followed and campaign runs smoothly
  • Work with volunteer coordinator to solicit parent volunteers to help organize/distribute fall fundraising campaign materials and distribute products to students upon delivery
  • Create and submit to the PTA Secretary; Facebook posts, ConnectEd write ups, newsletter blurbs, flyers, and website posts to market the events to parents and students
  • Send Thank You messages/cards to appropriate volunteers, sponsors and vendors
  • PLEASE NOTE: This is a yearlong position. The bulk of the tasks will take place during the fall fundraiser but this person should be available for fundraising/sponsorship help/guidance with all events.
